Chandigarh: The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-II Conference, which concluded on Tuesday night, brought together presiding officers, deputy presiding officers and legislators from 13 legislatures, including all five northern states, for meaningful discussions on strengthening democratic institutions and advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker Harvinder Kalyan expressed gratitude to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh, Haryana governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh, chief minister Nayab Singh Saini and all participating delegates for contributing to the conference's success. He noted that the event provided a constructive platform for democratic dialogue and deliberation on future governance challenges.Nearly 40 delegates shared their views during thematic sessions, while participants widely appreciated Haryana's warmth and hospitality, echoing the spirit of the state's ethos: "Atithi Devo Bhava " — the guest is divine. The conference concluded with the adoption of four formal resolutions. Delegates also unanimously conveyed appreciation for the meticulous planning and flawless execution of the event.Several key initiatives enhanced the conference experience.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the Parliamentary Research and Innovation Centre, designed to support legislators with research, analysis and reference material for informed decision-making. The Democracy Gallery was also launched to educate citizens, particularly youth, about the Constitution, democratic values and legislative processes.A specially curated "Wall of Memory" emerged as a major attraction, allowing delegates to record their reflections on democracy and parliamentary learning. Sustainable mobility was promoted through the use of e-buses for delegate transportation, reducing fuel consumption and logistical costs. The conference also featured the stage production Heroes of the Constitution, a powerful theatrical presentation aimed at deepening public understanding of constitutional values and civic responsibility.
