1,299 challaned in Panchkula drive against vehicles without number plates

Panchkula: Panchkula police have issued 1,299 challans in a week-long crackdown on vehicles plying without number plates or with tampered registration plates, as part of a special enforcement drive from May 18 to May 24.During the campaign, police teams checked 4,932 vehicles across the district. Altogether 931 manual challans were issued and 86 vehicles impounded, taking manual enforcement to 1,017 cases. In addition, 282 online challans were issued.The drive, launched on the directions of the Haryana DGP, aims to curb the use of unidentified vehicles often linked to criminal activity, police said. Vehicles without proper registration plates are frequently used to evade surveillance and conceal identity.ACP (traffic) Surender Singh said intensive nakas and checking were carried out at key roads, highways, markets, sensitive zones and entry-exit points across the city.The campaign saw active supervision by DCP (crime and traffic) Amrinder Singh, who inspected multiple checkpoints and monitored operations on the ground, including late-night visits to ensure strict enforcement.Police said such violations not only breach traffic norms but also pose a significant challenge to crime control, stressing that enforcement drives will continue to ensure compliance and improve public safety.
