Ahmedabad: Ramol police have booked a woman and her son for allegedly tampering with a school leaving certificate to falsely portray the son as a juvenile in an attempt to murder case.
The FIR was registered after police detected discrepancies in documents submitted by the family during the investigation of an attempt to murder case in which the woman’s son has been named as an accused.
According to the complaint filed by Ramol police inspector M R Chaudhary, acting on a tip-off, they traced the accused to his residence in Ramrajyanagar in Ramol, and detained him on Sunday.
During questioning, the boy allegedly told investigators that he was born on July 10, 2007. His mother also produced his Aadhaar card, which reflected the same date of birth. Based on the Aadhaar details, police treated him as an adult and formally arrested him in the case.
However, later the same day, the woman approached the police station with a school leaving certificate issued by Amraiwadi Hindi School No. 1, claiming that her son was a minor. The certificate stated his date of birth as July 10, 2008, which would have made him eligible to be treated as a juvenile.
Police said they noticed apparent alterations in the date of birth column and sought verification from the school. Upon examining its records, the school principal informed that the original records showed the boy’s date of birth as July 10, 2007. The principal also stated that the duplicate school leaving certificate had allegedly been tampered with after it was issued.
The school subsequently provided copies of relevant records as well as an affidavit submitted by the woman while obtaining the duplicate certificate.
Investigators alleged that the woman and her son conspired to alter the document and present it as genuine in an effort to mislead police and influence proceedings in the attempt to murder case. Further investigation is underway.
