BJP leader Nazia Elahi Khan has appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ban weapons in Muharram processions across the state. In a letter to the chief minister, she cited the death of a youth in Ghaziabad's Khora area and argued that swords, chains and other weapons should not be allowed during public religious processions. Her demand has sparked fresh debate over law and order, religious practices and public safety ahead of Muharram.
