The Kolkata Metro is a mass rapid transit system which serves in Kolkata, capital city of West Bengal. This is the first metro system in India. The first stretch, a length of about 3.4 km between Esplanade and Bhowanipur was completed on October 24, 1984.

Currently, the network consists of one operational line of 27.22 km from Noapara to Kavi Subhash. Five other lines in various phases are under construction.

Around 5 lakh people are using the Kolkata Metro on a daily basis.
