The Lalbazar in Kolkata has directed all of its traffic guards to ensure that there is no congestion on the roads in front of big eateries after 8pm. Night patrol officers led by the ACP have been told to report about the prevalent situation on the roads to the headquarters. The directives went out following a meeting at Lalbazar a few days ago that was attended by several senior officers. They asked the traffic guard officers of the affected spots to divert beat officers to the spot and look for alternative parking arrangements. The officers were also told to ensure special raids were carried out regularly. Police said while several eateries might have to arrange for alternative parking options which would require research and planning, cops on the road would have to ensure vehicles were not parked in double lanes in front of restaurants and parked cars did not block crossings so that the traffic kept moving. Areas such as Harish Mukherjee Road, Jl Nehru Road, and Sarat Bose Road have been included in the plan.
