Uttar Pradesh Police's Economic Offences Wing arrested two wholesale traders in Jalaun district for allegedly embezzling and black-marketing government-supplied kerosene meant for drought relief. The accused diverted 30,650 litres of kerosene, valued at Rs 3.06 lakh, intended for drought-affected residents between 2007-08. Investigations revealed the fuel was illegally sold on the black market instead of reaching fair-price shops.

A 28-year-old labourer was found murdered and buried in a shallow pit near a riverbank in Jaipur Rural. Villagers discovered part of his body protruding from the soil on Sunday morning. Police suspect he was killed Saturday night and the body was hastily buried to conceal the crime.

A Delhi court has taken cognisance of charges against industrialist Naveen Jindal, former coal secretary P C Parekh, and others in a coal block allocation case. The charges include criminal conspiracy, cheating, and corruption, stemming from alleged irregularities in the allocation of the Gare Palma IV/1 coal block. The court has summoned the accused to appear on July 17.

A man died by drowning in a pond in Bihar's Khagaria district while allegedly attempting to evade police custody. Detained for creating a law and order problem, the accused reportedly escaped and jumped into a pond. Villagers later found his body and protested at the police station.

A notorious criminal, Mohammad Buddin Mian, carrying a Rs50,000 bounty, was apprehended after a gunfight with police and STF in Khagaria. He sustained a leg injury during the exchange of fire when he resisted arrest and opened fire on officers. Recovered items include firearms and ammunition. Mian faces numerous serious charges.
