Simone Biles left fans worried over the weekend after revealing that she had a frightening health emergency that landed her in the hospital and nearly cost her life. The 11-time Olympic medalist shared the update on Instagram, saying the incident happened earlier in the week and was one of the scariest moments she has ever faced. While Biles did not reveal exactly what happened, she later confirmed that the scare was related to her health after some fans wondered if she had been involved in an accident or attacked. The 29-year-old gymnast posted a photo showing several hospital wristbands and explained why she had been quiet in recent days. Biles wrote, “I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week. This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.”
She also thanked the people who stood by her during the difficult period. Biles added, “I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.”
The Olympic star later shared another photo of herself resting at home with her dogs.
Alongside it, she posted a screenshot showing an unusually high resting heart rate. Because she did not explain the medical issue, many fans began guessing what may have happened. One person asked whether the incident was connected to an illness, an accident, or violence.
Simone Biles confirms health issue as fans send support after hospital scare
Biles quickly cleared up the confusion. Responding to a fan’s question, she simply wrote, “health” along with a heart emoji, making it clear that the emergency was medical in nature.
The update came just one day after Biles attended a St. Louis Cardinals game with her husband, Jonathan Owens. The Indianapolis Colts safety threw out the ceremonial first pitch for his hometown team. Owens later shared Biles’ post on Instagram and joked that she was “from the crib now,” a sign that she appears to be recovering at home.
Since sharing the news, Biles has received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow athletes. She has not competed since the Paris Olympics in 2024, where she won three gold medals and further strengthened her place among gymnastics’ greatest athletes.
Biles and Owens, who married in 2023, live in Texas and recently completed their dream lakeside home. However, Owens was away with the Colts during the health emergency because of NFL practice commitments. For now, Biles has chosen to keep details private, leaving fans relieved that she is recovering but still waiting to learn exactly what happened.
