Kyle Busch’s longtime NASCAR rivalry with Brad Keselowski took an emotional turn after the shocking death of the two-time Cup Series champion last week. Busch died Thursday at the age of 41 after suffering from severe pneumonia that later turned into sepsis. While many people across NASCAR shared memories of Busch, Keselowski’s comments stood out because of the difficult history the two drivers shared on the track for years. Speaking to People, Brad Keselowski admitted he noticed something was wrong when he last saw Kyle Busch during a flight to Dover shortly before his death. Even though the two drivers spent years battling each other in heated NASCAR moments, Keselowski said Busch did not seem like himself during that final meeting. The veteran NASCAR driver explained that Busch, usually known for his loud and outgoing personality, barely spoke before falling asleep on the plane. At the time, Keselowski said he did not think much about it. But after Busch’s sudden death, that quiet moment stayed with him. The heartbreaking part for Keselowski was that he always believed there would someday be peace between them after retirement. Instead, that chance never came.

Brad Keselowski says Kyle Busch “wasn’t well” during emotional final meeting before NASCAR legend’s death

Brad Keselowski told People that he and Kyle Busch were flying together to Dover when he noticed Busch looked unwell. He said, “Kyle is normally a fairly gregarious person, very outgoing and he wasn’t. He sat down one row behind me and next to me and fell asleep right away and I could tell he wasn’t feeling well.”Keselowski added, “I didn’t really think that much of it, to be honest. And that was pretty much the last time I saw him.”The two NASCAR stars spent decades racing each other aggressively. Their rivalry created several controversial moments across hundreds of races. Keselowski openly admitted after Busch’s death that the two were “not friends,” but he always respected Busch’s talent and competitive spirit. What hurts Keselowski the most now is knowing they never got the chance to move past their rivalry. He shared that he often imagined both of them one day standing together at a NASCAR Hall of Fame ceremony and finally laughing about their battles from the past.“I thought about this multiple times,” Keselowski said. “What’s it going to be like when we’re both in the Hall of Fame? Will the hatchet be buried? I think so.”He also admitted the lack of closure has been difficult for many people connected to Busch.Meanwhile, another emotional moment connected to Busch resurfaced this week. A clip from Samantha Busch’s podcast, Certified Oversharer, recorded months before Busch’s death, began spreading online again. In the episode, Samantha Busch spoke honestly about their frozen embryos and said she once told her husband she would have another child if he died so she could always keep a connection to him. Kyle Busch is survived by his wife Samantha Busch, son Brexton, and daughter Lennix.
