Angel Reese is starting a new chapter in her WNBA career, and it has come quite suddenly. The Chicago Sky have traded the 23-year-old forward to the Atlanta Dream just before the draft, ending a run that had already seen its share of tension. The move comes after months of questions around her future with the team. The timing is hard to ignore. Reese had openly shown frustration last season when Chicago missed the playoffs again. Now, with this trade confirmed, things have finally shifted. For fans, this is not just a team change. It also adds a fresh layer to her rivalry with Caitlin Clark as both continue to shape the league in their own way.

Angel Reese confirmed the news herself on X, sharing photos in her new team colors and writing, “An Angel’s DREAM. ATL WHAT UP?!” In a statement released by the team, she said,“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Atlanta Dream organization. I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, connecting with the fans, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.”The trade deal sends Reese to Atlanta in exchange for first round picks in 2027 and 2028. The Dream also receive the right to swap second round picks with Chicago in 2028.Reese was drafted seventh overall in 2024, the same class that included Caitlin Clark. Since then, she has built a strong record.
In two seasons, she averaged 14 points and 12.8 rebounds per game and recorded 49 double doubles. She also made the All Rookie Team and set a record for rebounds per game in her debut season.Still, her time in Chicago was not smooth. Last year, she openly spoke about her frustration after missing the playoffs. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, she said she might need to “move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.” That moment created a lot of discussion around her future. Now, Atlanta sees her as a key part of their plan. Head coach Karl Smesko said, “Angel’s ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor is elite. Her energy, toughness and instincts will thrive in our system.”General Manager Dan Padover added, “She has already proven herself as one of the most impactful players in the league. This is an exciting moment for our organization.”Reese joins a strong roster that already includes Allisha Gray, Naz Hillmon, and Brionna Jones. The Dream are coming off a strong season and will open their 2026 campaign against the Las Vegas Aces on May 17.
