USA vs Namibia Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: USA clinch 31-run victory over Namibia

USA vs Namibia Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: USA delivered a clinical all-round performance to defeat Namibia by 31 runs in their final T20 World Cup 2026 group-stage fixture at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Opting to bat first, USA made a strong start through openers Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir, who stitched together a 68-run partnership. The team reached 65 without loss at the end of the powerplay before Willem Myburgh dismissed Shayan for 22.

Monank continued to dominate, bringing up his half-century in 27 balls and becoming the first USA batter to reach 1000 T20I runs. However, Namibia struck back with quick wickets as Monank (52) and Saiteja Mukkamalla (17) departed in successive overs, leaving USA at 88/1 after 10 overs.

The momentum shifted decisively in USA’s favour when Milind Kumar and Sanjay Krishnamurthi combined for an 87-run stand. Sanjay was particularly destructive, reaching his fifty in just 23 balls and finishing unbeaten on 68 off 33 deliveries, smashing four boundaries and six sixes. USA closed on a formidable 199/4.

Namibia’s chase began briskly, but van Schalkwyk removed Frylink early and later claimed another key wicket to derail their progress. Louren Steenkamp fought hard with a 33-ball fifty and scored 58, but once he fell to a slower ball from Ranjane, the required rate soared. Captain Gerhard Erasmus managed only 6, and Namibia eventually ended on 168/6, handing USA a vital 31-run victory.

Ruben Trumpelmann to Monank Patel, A perfect straight drive, but Monank finds the stumps at the other end. Full-pitched delivery on middle, shaping in, Monank Patel gets a big stride in and smashes the ball back into the stumps at the non-striker's end.

Ruben Trumpelmann to Monank Patel, WIDE! A false start from Ruben Trumpelmann. Lands it full on leg and gets the ball to swing down the leg side. Monank Patel misses the flick and there's a slight appeal from the keeper, probably hoping to save the wide.

PITCH REPORT - Alan Wilkins is near the pitch. He starts by saying that it is a lovely afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and there's a bit of breeze around as well. Further mentions about the dimensions and says that it is a 76-meter hit down the ground. Adds that there is a bit of bias on either side of the square as well, with one side being 63 meters and the other being 70 meters. Former England cricketer, Nick Knight joins him and says that the pitch is better for batting than bowling. Mentions that the pitch block is made up of all sorts of different soils and today the strip being used is made up of red soil, which means there will be something in it for the bowlers and there will be good carry as well. Reckons that the quicker bowlers will be able to mix up their lengths as well but will have to be wary about the shorter boundary on one side.

Would have also liked to bat first - The captain of Namibia, GERHARD ERASMUS, says that he would have also liked to bat first. But does not think that it will be too much of a concern to bat second on this wicket. Is eager for the side to get its straps on and bat better in this game. On the team changes for this clash, Erasmus informs that they have made two changes - Dylan Leicher comes in for Malan Kruger while Willem Myburgh is in because Ben Shikongo is injured. On being asked to detail about Leicher's inclusion, Gerhard calls it a tactical decision, aiming to make the side a bit more compact from every department and hopes that it brings good luck for the team.

Much better pitch today - The skipper of USA, MONANK PATEL, says that this is a different pitch as compared to the one on which they played against the Netherlands. Details that this one is a red-soil deck. Goes onto say that the USA did really well against the Dutch, especially with the bat and is looking to repeat it today. On the changes to the team, Monank informs that Saurabh Netravalkar comes in place of Nosthush Kenjige. Adds that there was an injury last time around while there is some sickness going around in the camp at the moment. On the pitch, Patel feels that this looks to be a better pitch than what they played against the Netherlands. The captain goes onto add that the one which featured the Dutch as their opposition had a surface that was a mixture of red and black soil. Calls this a purely red-soil deck, so expects good even bounce and also some turn later on.

TOSS - Time for the flip of the coin. The two captains are out in the middle - Monank Patel and Gerhard Erasmus. Monank will toss, while Erasmus will call. Heads is the call but it is a tail. USA CHOOSE TO BAT.

USA vs Namibia Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: The United States strengthened their Super 8 hopes in the T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding 31-run win over Namibia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. Riding on half-centuries from captain Monank Patel and Sanjay Krishnamurthi, USA posted an imposing 199/4 after being asked to bat. Monank struck 52 off 30 balls, while Sanjay produced a blistering unbeaten 68 off just 33 deliveries to give the innings a powerful finish. The pair, along with Milind Kumar, ensured USA maintained momentum despite a brief middle-overs setback.

In reply, Namibia began confidently, with Jan Frylink and Louren Steenkamp scoring freely in the powerplay. However, Shadley van Schalkwyk’s crucial breakthrough shifted the momentum. Louren top-scored with 58 off 39 balls, but regular wickets stalled Namibia’s chase. Van Schalkwyk finished with 2/30, while Sourabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan and Shubham Ranjane chipped in with one wicket each to restrict Namibia to 168/6.

The victory marked USA’s second consecutive win in the group stage. However, their qualification hopes depend on either India or Pakistan losing both of their remaining matches by significant margins.
