Nepal vs Italy highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Italy seal maiden World Cup win with 10-wicket rout of Nepal

Nepal vs Italy highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Spinners Crishan Kalugamage and Ben Manenti helped debutants Italy to a historic first win at the cricket T20 World Cup with a 10-wicket hammering of Nepal on Thursday.

T20 World Cup: Schedule | Points Table

Kalugamage (3-18) and Manenti (2-9) combined to bowl out Nepal for 123, a total Italy's openers overhauled with 44 balls to spare in their second match at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

Brothers Justin Mosca, who made 60, and Anthony Mosca, who hit 62, tore into the opposition attack with fours and sixes to fire their team to a win.

A nation better known for its football, Italy are cricket minnows and the lowest-ranked side in the 20-team tournament.

They lost their opener to Scotland in Group C but bounced back.

Nepal were a far cry from the team that ran England close on Sunday at the same venue as they collapsed from 93-3 to be bundled out in 19.3 overs.

"It's pretty extraordinary really. It's something a lot of people in Italy, a lot of people in this group, have dreamed of," Italy's stand-in skipper Harry Manenti said.

"We didn't quite nail it the other day but we backed up today and showed the world what we've got."

Italy were without skipper Wayne Madsen, who dislocated his shoulder in the first loss, but came out roaring after they won the toss and elected to field first.

Leg-spinner Kalugamage sent back skipper Rohit Paudel for 23 and Manenti, who opened the bowling attack, took down Aasif Sheikh, for 20, with his off-spin.

"I always wanted to help the team to win a match and do my best for my nation, Italy -- I'm happy," player of the match Kalugamage said. "These are my brothers. I'm really happy."

Aarif Sheikh attempted to rebuild in 27 but Italy bowlers were unrelenting in their pursuit of wickets and the Nepal batting came crashing down.

"We need to be more consistent and today was the day to prove that, but not taking away the credit from Italy," said Paudel. "They played really well today and credit must go to them."

The Mosca brothers then struck eight fours and nine sixes between them to leave the Nepal bowlers in agony.

The win made Italy jump to third and England slip to fourth in the group led by the West Indies.

DRINKS BREAK! A pretty even-stevens Powerplay in the end and Nepal doubled their score from the first 4 overs in the last two overs of the Powerplay. Italy have bowled well thus far but they would have liked at least one more wicket in the first 6 overs. Nepal now have a platform to build on and Italy will have to find ways to get regular breakthroughs in the middle phase. Let's see which team has the momentumwhen the final phase arrives. Crishan Kalugamage comes on to bowl as well now.

Time for the national anthems. It will be Italy's national anthem first, followed by that of Nepal. The anthems are done, and we are all set for the action to commence. As was the case in their game against England, the Nepalese fans are out in numbers once again, and they will surely make their presence felt. Harry Manenti has gathered his troops in a huddle before they head out to the middle. Out walk the two openers of Nepal, Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh. Italy are starting with spin. Benjamin Manenti to bowl his off-breaks first up. Bhurtel to face the first ball. Here we go!

PITCH REPORT - Michael Atherton describes the conditions as very toasty, with temperatures touching a high of 34 degrees. Shares that there is a slight cooling breeze offering a bit of relief out in the middle. Informs that the square boundaries measure 65 metres and 64 metres, with 75 metres straight down the ground. Preston Mommsen joins him, and he mentions that this is the same wicket on which England played West Indies last night and in that game, spinners had a major say. Considering the heat and the dry nature of the surface, Preston reckons that spinners will play a key role. Atherton further says that last night, Adil Rashid managed to get the ball to turn significantly, both with his leg-breaks and his googlies. He adds that the Wankhede Stadium has produced more turn in this World Cup than any other venue so far.

NEP vs ITA T20 World Cup Live Score: Rohit Paudel
We would have bowled, to be honest. The toss is something that’s not in our control. We’ll make the most of batting first. It’s the same wicket where the last game was played, and it should spin in the second innings, so we’ll try to use that. I think it’s a great advantage, especially playing in Asian conditions. Playing all our games here at the Wankhede helps, and we’ll try to make the most of it. We felt that’s the area we can improve from the last game, in both departments - batting and bowling. The last three to four overs have been very crucial for us. That’s where we need to hold our nerves, absorb the pressure, and be present in that moment. It’s great to have fans like them; they motivate us a lot. After the England game, we saw many social media posts showing people watching us live back in Nepal. That gives a lot of motivation to all the boys.

We’ll bowl today. There were some nerves there, of course, like any game of international cricket. I think it just didn’t work out for us on the day. A few things clearly went the wrong way for us. Losing our skipper, Wayne Madsen, was probably a turning point, and then we didn’t manage to get back that momentum in a crucial period of the game. Scotland are a good side, and today we take on another good side in Nepal, so we’re really looking forward to it. He’s played a lot of cricket for Italy, and I’m really looking forward to watching him. We’ll also make another change. Our focus point has been bravery the whole time. We’re playing against teams who are well above us in the world rankings, and from the outside looking in, we’re the outsiders. But within our squad, we believe strongly in our abilities. We’re trying to be brave, take the game on, and hopefully we’ll see that today. We’ve moved on slightly from then, and Italy cricket has moved on a long way since that stage. It’s pretty exciting to be here in Mumbai, playing some really impressive sides - Nepal obviously being one of them. To lead this squad of really good men is a privilege for me.

Nepal vs Italy highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Italy registered a historic first-ever win in the men’s T20 World Cup, trouncing Nepal by 10 wickets in just the second match of their maiden appearance in the competition here on Thursday.

After their spinners ran through the Nepal batting line-up to dismiss them for a modest 123, brothers Anthony Mosca (62 not out) and Justin Mosca (60 not out) produced a ruthless unbeaten opening stand to crush the Rhinos, who failed to live up to pre-match expectations. Chasing 124, Italy completed the formalities with 7.2 overs to spare.

The younger Justin struck three sixes and five fours in his 60 not out off 44 balls, while Anthony made full use of a deflated Nepal attack, smashing six sixes and three fours in a blazing 62 not out off just 32 deliveries.

It was only Italy’s second match in T20 World Cup history, having suffered a 73-run defeat to Scotland in the tournament opener in Kolkata.
