NEW CHANDIGARH: India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir on Friday supported the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) initiative to use the pink ball during day Tests to minimise truncated matches due to bad light or inclement weather. The ICC recently approved a trial of using pink balls in regular Tests, with prior agreement from both teams in bad light situations. “I love that (pink-ball idea). I always believe that if there’s an opportunity to get a result, you should have that opportunity,” Gambhir said, adding, “Imagine if you are playing the last Test before the WTC final and you have the chance to win and qualify, but it’s prevented by bad light. If there’s an opportunity to get a result both teams should agree to it. It could be a little uncertain or difficult for the players playing in that Test.India’s next Test assignments are in Sri Lanka and New Zealand, where weather disruptions are very common.
