NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP maintained a broader lead across the state, this constituency was retained by the Trinamool Congress, with Barnali Dhara securing 91,266 votes. She defeated BJP candidate Abani Naskar by a margin of 10,383 votes, maintaining a clear edge through the counting process. Naskar polled 80,883 votes but finished second in the contest.
Kulpi is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Mathurapur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is part of the state’s 294 assembly constituencies and has seen electoral participation from major political parties.
At present, Jogaranjan Halder of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Kulpi.
He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 50.01% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pranab Kumar Malik, who received 32.5% of the votes.
In the recent assembly polls, Trinamool changed its candidate and gave ticket to Barnali Dhara. She was challenged by Abani Naskar of the BJP.
Jogaranjan Halder held the constituency for multiple consecutive terms, having also won the seat in the 2016 and 2011 assembly elections as an AITC candidate.
The election history shows that Kulpi has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
