Jangipur assembly results 2026: BJP's Chitto Mukherjee wins with 91,201 votes, defeats TMC's Jakir Hossain

In West Bengal's Jangipur, BJP's Chitto Mukherjee secured a total votes of 91,201 votes, defeating TMC's Jakir Hossain who trailed behind with 80,659 votes.In 2026, Jangipur will see TMC's sitting MLA Jakir Hossain face BJP's Chitto Mukherjee and Congress's Mohammad Imran Ali.Jangipur is a general constituency in Murshidabad district, part of the Jangipur Lok Sabha seat. It covers Jangipur municipality, Raghunathganj I community development block, and parts of Suti I block. The constituency is divided between rural and urban voters, with a significant Muslim population and an SC ratio of around 23 per cent. The seat has political history linked to the former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, whose family is associated with Jangipur, though the constituency itself is not his home seat.In 2016, TMC's Jakir Hossain defeated the CPI(M) candidate, maintaining TMC's hold on the seat he had won previously. In 2021, Hossain retained the seat comfortably with nearly 69 per cent of the vote, defeating BJP by over 45,000 votes. His dominance in Jangipur is well established, and the sitting MLA enters 2026 as the firm favourite. Congress's Mohammad Imran Ali and BJP's Chitto Mukherjee will seek to make the race more competitive, but the arithmetic remains strongly in TMC's favour given the constituency's electoral composition.
