NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP maintained a broader lead across the state, the Hansan constituency was retained by the Trinamool Congress, with Fayezul Haque (Kajal Sk) securing 1,03,223 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Nikhil Banerjee by a margin of 28,298 votes, maintaining a comfortable lead through the counting process. Banerjee polled 74,925 votes but finished second in the contest.
Hansan is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency.
Earlier, Dr Asok Kumar Chattopadhyay of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) was the sitting MLA from Hansan. He won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 51.42% of the total votes polled.
He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, who received 27.39 per cent of the votes.
In the recently held polls, Trinamool fielded Fayzeul Haque. Nikhil Banerjee was the BJP candidate.
Earlier, the constituency was represented by Indian National Congress (INC) candidates in consecutive elections. Miltan Rasid won the seat in 2016, while Asit Mal secured victory in 2011.
The election history shows that Hansan has seen changes in political representation over the years, reflecting shifting voter preferences and evolving electoral dynamics in the constituency.
