In Himachal Pradesh, counting will decide the fate 337 candidates who contested for 68 assembly seats. The counting will be held at 42 centres. A turnout of 75.28 per cent was recorded during voting on November 9.

In Himachal Pradesh, exit poll predictions suggest that anti-incumbency may see the end of Congress government in the state. However, Chief minister Virbhadra Singh has dismissed the exit poll results. He claimed that he could read well the mood of the people of the state and the actual results would be opposite to the projections.

In Gujarat, counting of votes will be held at 37 centres across 37 districts of the state. An average of 68.41 per cent of polling was recorded in the two-phase assembly elections, held on December 9 and December 14. According to the final figures released by the Election Commission, the voter turnout in the second phase of balloting on December 14, for 93 seats of North and Central Gujarat, stood at 69.99 per cent. In the first phase of polls held on December 9 for 89 seats in Saurasthra, Kutch and South Gujarat, 66.75 per cent voting was recorded.

For Hardik Patel, the assembly elections is a litmus test. He has gone all out against the BJP government in the state and the results will determine his future course of action. Exit polls have predicted that the BJP support base in the state remains intact despite the very strong Patidar agitation.

The Gujarat results will be keenly watched as the Congress had managed to stitch together a caste coalition with the help of Hardik Patel, Jignesh Mavani and Alpesh Takhor. It will be interesting to see how much this coalition helps the Congress.

Gujarat witnessed a high-voltage campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi leading the charge. They criss-crossed the state and addressed several rallies trading charges and barbs at each other.
