This significant Hindu festival is celebrated annually on the Amavasya Tithi of the Kartik month to commemorate Lord Ram's return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ram, along with Mata Sita and Lakshman, returned to Ayodhya on this day, prompting the residents to illuminate the city with thousands of diyas. This tradition continues to thrive today.

Diwali 2024 Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali on Thursday with the Border Security Force (BSF) and personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force stationed at Lakki Nala in the Sir Creek area of Kachchh, Gujarat. Known for its extreme climate, the area is challenging due to scorching daytime temperatures and bitterly cold nights. PM Modi has observed the tradition of spending Diwali with military personnel since taking office in 2014, underscoring his support for India’s armed forces.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister extended Diwali greetings to the nation on social media, saying, "Many happy wishes to the countrymen on Deepawali. On this divine festival of lights, I wish everyone a healthy, happy, and prosperous life. May everyone prosper with the blessings of Maa Lakshmi and Lord Shri Ganesha."
In addition to the Diwali celebrations, PM Modi paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat, commemorating National Unity Day on Patel’s birth anniversary. He hailed Patel’s dedication to preserving India's unity, writing on X (formerly Twitter), "My salutations to Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary. Protecting the unity and sovereignty of the nation was the top priority of his life. His personality and work will continue to inspire every generation of the country." He also attended a parade and witnessed an air show by the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team of the Indian Air Force.

That's why our policies are aligned with the resolve of our armed forces.” Recognizing the soldiers' role in national security, he added, “People of India feel their country is safe because of you…When the world sees you, it sees India’s strength, but when the enemies see you, they see the end of their sinister plans.”
