The National Commission for Women (NCW) has given Nora Fatehi a final opportunity to appear before it in person in connection with the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri. The commission has fixed April 27 as the next date of hearing. The commission has also directed Sanjay Dutt to appear before it on April 8 in connection with the matter.

The commission has fixed April 27 as the next date of hearing.According to PTI, the panel had taken suo motu cognisance of the song over its allegedly objectionable lyrics and conducted a hearing on April 6. While Nora’s counsel appeared before the commission, the body declined to accept representation through a lawyer and directed the actress to be present herself.“A final opportunity has been granted to Nora Fatehi to appear in person before the commission on April 27, 2026,” the NCW said in a statement.The hearing was chaired by NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.

Lyricist, makers apologise; NCW flags ‘negative impact’

During the proceedings, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, director Prem, along with representatives of KVN Productions—Gautam K M and Suprith—appeared before the commission.Rahatkar raised concerns over the song’s lyrics, stating that they were against the dignity of women. She also rejected the argument by those summoned that they were unaware of the meaning of the lyrics.
“The dignity of women cannot be compromised in the name of creativity,” she said.According to the commission, those present submitted a written apology and acknowledged that the song had a “negative impact on society.” They also informed the panel that they would undertake initiatives for women’s empowerment over the next three months and submit a report.

The commission has also directed Sanjay Dutt to appear before it on April 8 in connection with the matter.Sarke Chunar Teri, a track from the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil, had sparked widespread backlash over its sexually explicit lyrics soon after its release on YouTube. The song has since been taken down from the platform. Directed by Prem and starring Dhruv Sarja in the lead, KD: The Devil is slated to hit theatres on April 30.
