NEW DELHI: BJP's Sumita Sinha retained Kanthi Uttar seat, defeating TMC candidate Debasis Bhunya by 20,055 votes.
According to the Election Commission, Sinha secured 130,088 votes. Bhunya, on the other hand, won 110,033 votes.
Sinha won the 2021 election with 113,524 votes, defeating Trinamool's Tarun Kumar Jana (104,194 votes) by a margin of 9,330 votes.
Key challenges in the constituency included rural unemployment, agricultural distress from erratic monsoons, inadequate irrigation, and poor rural road connectivity.
Flooding from nearby rivers and limited industrial growth beyond fishing and small-scale units exacerbate poverty.
Kanthi Uttar falls under Kanthi Lok Sabha seat, currently held by BJP's Soumendu Adhikari.
