At 5°C, Chintapalle in ASR district records coldest day in Andhra Pradesh for the season
VISAKHAPATNAM: Chintapalle in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district recorded its coldest day of the current winter season on Thursday (Jan 8), with the minimum temperature dropping to 5°C. This is nearly four degrees below the seasonal average, prompting residents to scramble for heavy woollens as Chintapalle and many other locations in the district experienced an unusual winter chill.The Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) at Chintapalle in ASR district, the primary weather station in ASR district, recorded the minimum temperature at 5°C on Jan 8, 6°C on Jan 7, and 6 °C on Dec 9, 2025. They said that the people felt freezing like cold on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The minimum temperature may drop to 4 °C during the Sankranti festive season.

It may be recalled that on January 8, 2023, Chintapalle in ASR district recorded the lowest temperature 1.5 degrees Celsius. Thin ice sheets were seen on grasslands and vehicles that were parked in the open places by the visitors in a few parts in ASR in morning hours.A dense fog enveloped many parts of the ASR district on Thursday morning, where visibility dropped below 100 meters.
The dense fog has been impacting morning commutes, with slower traffic reported on major roads in the district as fog making it difficult for drivers to negotiate traffic on the road.The motorists said that dense fog continues to hit the road traffic on ghat roads in many parts of ASR district of Andhra Pradesh as fog reduces visibility and leads to risky travel conditions on the roads.As per the authorities from RARS, most parts of the ASR district recorded the lowest temperatures between 5°C and 7°C on Thursday.As per the IMD, dry weather conditions are likely to prevail over most parts of the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions in the state. Fog/mist conditions are likely at isolated pockets over the state for next few days. Across the state, several pockets recorded the minimum temperatures between 14°C and 20 °C for the past few days.
