AP Train Accident News Live Updates: The number of casualties in the train accident on the Howrah-Chennai line in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh rose to 14, Vizianagaram joint collector Mayur Ashok said on Monday, while the number of injured stood at 50. "The number of dead rose by one to 14, of which 13 died at the accident site itself and one while undergoing treatment," Ashok said.

Superintendent of Police M Deepika said 50 people were injured. A senior Railway official said the injured had been shifted to hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.

The divisional railway manager of Waltair Division, Saurabh Prasad, said that the locopilot of Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train overshoot the signal and hit the Visakhapatnam-Palasa train which was heading on the same track. There was no Kavach system on these two trains. As many as 33 trains have been cancelled and six others rescheduled till now after the mishap in which two trains collided in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram, East Coast Railway officials said.

The mishap took place when a passenger train travelling from Visakhapatnam to Rayagada derailed after colliding with the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train near Kothavalasa railway station in Vizianagaram district around 7pm on Sunday. Stay with TOI for all the latest updates.

AP Train Accident News: Track restoration works being carried on war footing

The track restoration work near Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram district is being carried out with utmost urgency, as seven train carriages were crushed in the accident. A Baahubali crane has been brought from Visakhapatnam to remove the carriages, and relief operations are ongoing. Seven relief teams have been tirelessly working since last night to expedite the movement of the carriages and repair the tracks. In addition, 11 carriages from the Palasa passenger train have been relocated to Alamanda station, and nine carriages from the Rayagada passenger train have been moved to Kantakapalli station.The relief operations have seen the active involvement of South Central Railway and East Coast Railway staff, as well as personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, RPF, and various other departments. Two ambulances have been stationed near the accident site for immediate medical assistance.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will visit the Vizianagaram Government General Hospital today to meet the survivors of a recent train accident. The chief minister's visit to the accident spot has been postponed in order to avoid any delays in the ongoing track restoration work.The accident took place on the Howrah-Chennai railway line on Sunday evening when the Palasa Passenger train collided with the Rayagada Passenger train near Kantakapalli, approximately 40 km from Visakhapatnam. As a result of the collision, three coaches derailed, leading to the unfortunate death of 14 individuals and injuring 50 others.
