VRO caught taking Rs 1.5 lakh bribe in Anakapalle district
Visakhapatnam: Officials from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught Potula Sankara Rao, a village revenue officer (VRO), for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a person for doing an official favour in Anakapalle district.The victim purchased 2.54 acres of agricultural land in P Bheemavaram revenue village in 2022 and had it registered in his name. He also obtained the 1-B Adangal for the land.The vendor's name was inadvertently recorded in the revenue records instead of the purchaser's name during the resurvey conducted by the previous governmentThe victim applied for mutation in the revenue records to enter his name in place of the vendor and for issuance of pattadar passbooks with LPM (land parcel map) number through Mee-Seva on Dec 15, 2025.Later, he approached the VRO and requested him to process his application. However, the VRO rejected the victim's application and demanded a bribe for the officials' favour.Unable to bear the harassment from the VRO, the victim approached the ACB officials a week ago. After verifying the facts, the ACB set up a trap and caught Sankara Rao accepting a bribe from the victim.
