Vijayawada: The state government has spent over Rs 861 crore on repairing and restoring roads spanning 20,060 kilometres across Andhra Pradesh within nine months of coming to power. Besides this, 922 works covering 6,054 km, worth Rs 2,500 crore, were taken up, of which 221 works spanning 1,326 km have already been completed at a cost of Rs 417.30 crore, during the last two years by the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department, Roads & Buildings and Infrastructure & Investments (I&I) Minister BC Janardhan Reddy said on Wednesday.Highlighting the various large-scale developmental and road infrastructure works executed by the government over the last two years, Janardhan Reddy said the R&B Department has increasingly adopted advanced technologies for road construction and maintenance. The department has executed pilot projects involving Artificial Intelligence-based road inspections, Eco-Fix pothole repair technology, nano-concrete roads developed by IIT Tirupati, and the use of fly ash, plastic waste, and steel slag materials to improve durability and reduce costs.Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Janardhan Reddy said that, in a significant milestone, Andhra Pradesh entered the record books when NHAI and Rajpath Infracon Private Limited created two Guinness World Records in Jan 2026 during the construction of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada six-lane corridor.The project achieved a record by constructing 28.95 lane kilometres of continuous bituminous concrete road and laying 10,675 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete within 24 hours, the minister added.
Elaborating on National Highway project works, Janardhan Reddy said Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of the leading states in terms of infrastructure investment. During the last two years, projects covering 1,549 km of National Highways, involving an investment of Rs 23,325 crore, have been taken up under NHAI and the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH).The state has also completed 61 national highway projects spanning 1,515 km at a total cost of Rs 35,799 crore during the period. He said Andhra Pradesh ranks third in the country, after Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, in terms of National Highway funding. For the coming year, the government has set a target of constructing 784 km of National Highways with an estimated investment of Rs 12,000 crore and completing 79 projects covering 1,467 km, worth Rs 30,781 crore.
