Trichy: Trichy MP Durai Vaiko has urged Union railway minister
Ashwini Vaishnaw to include Trichy as one of the cities under the National Rail Plan (NRP) Vision 2030. In a submission made to the minister in New Delhi on Wednesday, the MP also sought a new night train service between Trichy and Chamarajanagar,
Karnataka.
Since the vision 2030 plan is aimed to formulate strategies to create capacity ahead of demand by identifying high speed rail corridors, the MP requested the minister to include Trichy as one the 48 cities likely to be covered under it. He also thanked the minister for extending the Guntur-Tirupati express till Trichy, facilitating a direct connectivity between pilgrimages Srirangam and
Tirupati, and for regularising the Trichy-Charlapalli special train service.
The MP also placed a demand for a new railway RoB at Keeranur as a replacement for the level crossing number 355. “A request for stoppages for Trichy-Mayiladuthurai MEMU and Ernakulam-Karaikal express trains at Thiruverumbur was submitted. A new daily train service connecting Trichy-Pudukottai-Karaikudi-Tiruchendur was also sought,” the MP said.
