Dumka: Marking a major step in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Jharkhand, AIIMS Deoghar on Tuesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art blood centre equipped with advanced blood component separation technology. The facility was formally inaugurated by Godda MP Nishikant Dubey.
Set up under the department of transfusion medicine and blood bank, the centre is the first govt blood bank in the Santhal Pargana division capable of separating whole blood into multiple components, ensuring more efficient and scientific use of donated blood, AIIMS stated.
Dubey said, “The establishment of this modern centre is a significant achievement for Deoghar and the entire Santhal Pargana region. Access to safe and timely blood can save countless lives. I urge citizens to actively participate in voluntary blood donation drives and support this noble cause.”
AIIMS Deoghar executive director and CEO prof Nitin M Gangane said, “This blood centre represents our dedication to delivering affordable, quality healthcare to the people of Jharkhand. It will reduce dependence on distant blood banks and ensure timely availability of blood and blood components during emergencies,” he said.
The centre has a storage capacity of around 1,000 units and will offer comprehensive services including blood collection, donor screening, testing, processing, storage and distribution. Advanced laboratories have been installed for blood grouping, compatibility testing and infectious disease screening in line with national safety standards.
Officials said a key feature is its ability to separate blood into Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBCs), Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Platelets and Cryoprecipitate, enabling one donation to benefit multiple patients.
The facility is expected to significantly aid critically ill newborns, pregnant women, anaemia patients, those suffering from thalassaemia and cancer, trauma victims, and patients undergoing major surgeries across the region, he added.
