President appoints seven new judges to Patna HC

Patna: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed seven advocates of the Patna high court as judges of the same court.A notification to this effect was issued by the Union ministry of law and justice on Wednesday evening.Of the seven appointees, Ranjan Kumar Jha, Kumar Manish and Raj Kumar have been appointed as permanent judges and will serve until their retirement. The remaining four — Rana Vikram Singh, Vikash Kumar, Girijish Kumar and Alok Kumar — have been appointed as additional judges for a period of two years from the date they assume office.With these appointments, the 110-year-old Patna high court is set to achieve a historic milestone by crossing the mark of 40 permanent judges for the first time.Against a sanctioned strength of 53 judges, the court has 40 posts for permanent judges and 13 for additional judges.After the seven newly appointed judges assume charge, the working strength of the Patna high court will rise to 43, the highest in its history.
