Education department set to launch summer learning camps for weak students
Patna: The education department has decided to organise a special summer learning programme for Class V and VI students of govt schools who are comparatively weak in language and mathematics. The month-long camp will run from June 1 to June 30 across villages in Bihar. The initiative aims to strengthen students’ reading, comprehension, communication and basic mathematical skills to help them prepare better for higher primary education.According to guidelines issued by primary education director Vikram Veerkar, the programme will be entirely community-based, with each camp accommodating around 10 to 15 children. Volunteers from middle schools will be identified to conduct the camps, while Education Sevaks and Talimi Markaz personnel will also assist in the initiative.Selected volunteers will undergo special training by district and block-level resource persons before the commencement of classes.Using the ASER assessment tool, volunteers will identify children requiring additional academic support and provide focused learning sessions in language and mathematics for one to one-and-a-half hours daily.
The camps will use games, storytelling, reading exercises and creative activities to improve foundational learning skills. The department has directed district and block officials to ensure effective implementation, regular monitoring and smooth functioning of the programme across the state.
