Noida: Power demand across Noida and Greater Noida has risen sharply over the past 15 days, climbing a combined 650 MW between May 12 and May 26 — already surpassing last year’s peak figures for both regions, even before the summer peaks.
Noida’s power demand rose from 2,299 MW on May 12 to 2,732 MW on May 26, touching a high of 2,807 MW on May 25 — crossing last year’s peak of 2,629 MW recorded in July 2025. Demand never dipped below 2,000 MW during the period, touching a low of 2,083 MW on May 17.
In Greater Noida, demand climbed from 722.62 MW on May 12 to 878 MW on May 26, also exceeding last year’s peak of 832 MW recorded on June 12, 2025. The region had already crossed that mark earlier this month, hitting 838 MW on May 18 and 896 MW on May 25.
Driven by rapid commercial, industrial, and residential growth, demand is projected to cross 3,000 MW in Noida and 950 MW in Greater Noida this year.
The spike tracks a steady rise in temperatures since May 12, after the mercury breached 40°C and climbed to around 44°C by May 27.
“There has been a steady rise in power demand over the past 15 days, when temperatures began soaring past 41°C. In 15 days, demand in Noida jumped 433 MW,” said Vinay Tripathi, superintending engineer (transmission), PVVNL.
To manage the load, 15 nodal officers have been deployed for nightly patrols across Noida’s zones, covering critical 33/11 kV substations in sectors 8, 31, 39, 44, 45, 46, 52, 53, 58, 65, 66, 72, 82, 117, 122 and Phase 2, among others. Officers remain active from 7pm to midnight, handling any issues that arise.
“These officers shall remain active at their respective substations and designated areas from 7pm to midnight, and will ensure prompt resolution of any issues arising during this period,” said Vivek Kumar Patel, superintending engineer, PVVNL.
Despite official claims of no supply shortages, daily post-midnight outages linked to equipment overloading and snags continue to be reported from sectors 22, 44, 55, 62, 63, 71, 122 and others. Night patrol teams are focusing on equipment overheating and emergency checks.
In Greater Noida, NPCL has undertaken a series of upgrades to shore up the network. Four 12.5 MVA transformers at Site B and Ecotech 6 have been upgraded to 16 MVA, improving supply for Site B Industrial Area, Kasna Village, and Kasna Industrial Area.
Three 5 MVA transformers in Alpha 1, Gamma 1, and Sector 37 have been upgraded to 12.5 MVA, benefiting residents of sectors Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, 36, 37, and Accher village.
“Two new 12.5 MVA substations have also been commissioned this month — one at Sector 16B to support Greater Noida West’s residential areas, and one at Site 5 to strengthen supply for industrial sectors, Luksar village, and Kasna Industrial Area,” said an NPCL spokesperson.
PVVNL has recorded a jump of 875 MW in peak power demand across its jurisdiction compared to the same period last year. While demand stood at 10,125 MW in May 2025, it has risen to 11,000 MW so far in May 2026.
