Nashik: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a constable attached to the Tofkhana police station of Ahilyanagar while accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000.
The constable had demanded the money from the complainant in lieu of not making him and his family visit the police station frequently in connection with a domestic violence case.
An ACB official, while talking to TOI, said the complainant had a dispute with his wife and a case of domestic violence case was registered at the Tofkhana police station. The case was being investigated by the constable concerned. On April 11, the constable called the complainant on his mobile phone and asked him to come to the police station for inquiry. The constable then told him he would have to pay Rs50,000 if he did not want to be called to the police station during the course of investigation. Later, the constable settled for Rs 35,000.
The complainant then approached the ACB to register a complaint against the constable following which a trap was laid and the constable was arrested while accepting the bribe amount.
A case has been registered against the constable under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
