Nashik: The district administration has hit a major milestone in its special intense revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, completing the digital mapping of 57% of district's voters.
A senior district election official confirmed that mapping is being carried out across all 15 assembly constituencies. "So far, we have successfully mapped approximately 30 lakh voters out of the total 52.5 lakh electors in the district," the official said.
Conducted under the guidelines of the
Election Commission of India, the SIR initiative aims to create a transparent, error-free electoral list. The process uses advanced digital tracking to link voters to their precise geographical locations, thereby eliminating duplicate entries and correcting residential discrepancies.
The administration is employing a three-pronged mapping strategy to ensure maximum accuracy. Self-mapping: Allowing voters to verify and update their own locations. Frozen mapping: Securing geographical data for established residential areas. Identification of unmapped voters: Specifically targeting electors not yet linked to a precise location.
This comprehensive exercise is being managed on the ground by booth level officers (BLOs), who are visiting households to verify voter data in real time.
The primary objective is to streamline the voting experience and resolve long-standing issues with incorrect residential information.

Close to 91 Lakh Names Dropped From WB Voter List after SIR, Ahead of 2026 Polls
District collector Ayush Prasad has set a critical target for the team to surpass the 80% mapping threshold by the end of April.
This intensive revision is particularly significant as the last such exercise was conducted in 2004, when the district had only 30.6 lakh voters. Over the past two decades, the electorate has grown by approximately 22 lakh, reaching 52.5 lakh in 2024.
The district administration has issued a public appeal for citizens to cooperate with BLOs during their door-to-door visits to ensure the success of the digital verification drive.
