Nagpur: Maharashtra topped national performance under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, contributing 4,700 of the record 15,000 rooftop solar systems installed across India on May 29 — about 31.3% of the total — the highest among all states.MSEDCL, which is implementing the scheme in the state, said the scheme is aimed to help households reduce their electricity bills through rooftop solar generation and credited the scheme's momentum in the state to guidance from CM Devendra Fadnavis.Union new and renewable energy minister Pralhad Joshi praised the state, noting Maharashtra has crossed the six lakh rooftop solar installation milestone. Under the scheme, residential consumers receive subsidies of Rs30,000 for 1kW, Rs60,000 for 2kW, and Rs78,000 for 3kW rooftop solar systems."During the nationwide campaign conducted in May, Maharashtra emerged as one of the best-performing states in the country.
