Mumbai: Maximum City witnesses 2877 new cases, eight deaths

Maharashtra on Wednesday reported this year's highest-ever spike in COVID-19 cases amid rising concerns. The state reported as many as 23,179 new cases of coronavirus in a single day. There are 1,52,760 active cases in the state at present. Mumbai city reported 2,377 new cases, taking the COVID-19 tally to 3,49,974, while eight deaths took the fatality count to 11,551. Meanwhile, in another development, IPS officer Hemant Nagrale took charge as Mumbai police chief after his predecessor Param Bir Singh was transferred to the state Home Guard as announced by the state government in the afternoon. Singh was under flak over the handling of the bomb scare outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani's residence and Mansukh Hiren case.

In a special drive, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Wednesday fined 245 persons for not wearing masks at a restaurant near Breach Candy Hospital and filed a complaint against them in the Gamdevi police station.

Thane: Active COVID cases cross 3,000 mark; restrictions imposed

Maharashtra's single-day COVID-19 count crosses 23,000 mark
Maharashtra reported as many as 23,179 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, which is the highest single-day infection count so far in 2021. This is the sixth highest one-day spike of infection cases in the state since the pandemic began last year. With these new cases, Maharashtra's overall infection count rose to 23,70,507.
