Man held for holding minor at knifepoint inside shop in Najibabad

Bijnor: A 24-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly holding a 16-year-old girl at knifepoint inside a clothing store in Najibabad town, police said. The survivor had gone to the shop with a friend, also a minor, when the accused — allegedly under the influence of liquor and wrapped in a shawl — pulled out a knife, held it to her throat and demanded Rs 1 lakh and a motorcycle from the shop owner.Hearing the commotion, a police patrol team stationed nearby rushed to the spot and overpowered the man. Najibabad circle officer Nitesh Pratap Singh said the girl sustained a minor knife scratch during the struggle. "The accused, a resident of Barabanki, had arrived in Najibabad by train. When caught, he repeatedly shouted that he wanted to be arrested and sent to jail," Singh said. SHO Rahul Singh said the man was taken into custody and further details about his background were being verified.
