Murder accused BDO held for drunk driving
Kolkata: Prashanta Burman, the BDO accused of kidnapping and murdering a 45-year-old Salt Lake gold trader last year was detained by Bidhannagar police in a drink-and-drive case on Monday night.Burman, who was denied protection by the Supreme Court in this case had been absconding since January.On Monday, a video purportedly showed him under the influence of alcohol around 10.30 pm near the Shrachi signal in New Town. According to passersby, the accused BDO allegedly hit a pedestrian while driving in an intoxicated state. The impact left a biker injured and bleeding. On-duty police personnel rescued the injured biker and sent him to hospital.Witnesses alleged that when people protested, the BDO became aggressive. In the viral clip, the accused BDO, Prashanta Barman, can allegedly be heard calling protesters "corrupt' and threatening to slap them. At one point, he is also seen getting out of the car with unsteady steps and telling police, "arrest me."Following the incident, police from the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate's Eco Park Police Station detained the accused BDO.
