Kolhapur: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday by the MIDC Kupwad police on the charge of killing his 51-year-old mother.
According to the police, the deceased — Sangeet Jhende, a resident of Manmodi village of Miraj tehsil of Sangli district — was not in favour of living under the same roof with the accused, Jagdish, and his wife.
"This led to frequent altercations between Jagdish and Sangeet. On Thursday things escalated and the son ended up attacking his mother," a police officer said.
The incident came to light after Sangeet was found lying unconscious in her home. "The neighbours called the police and took her to the hospital where she was declared dead. Later, Jagdish, who was on the run, was caught. He confessed to the crime during questioning," a police officer said.
Anandrao Ghadge, assistant inspector of MIDC Kupwad police station, said, "Brother of the deceased woman registered a complaint with us based on which the FIR was registered. The doctors told us that the mother died of asphyxiation. We suspect that the son used a pillow to choke his mother to death."
The accused was produced before the Miraj court following which he was remanded in two-day police custody.
