Man held for stealing jewellery from Kolhapur home
Kolhapur: Laxmipuri police have arrested a man on charge of stealing jewellery worth Rs18 lakh from a house in Kolhapur. Police said the theft took place on April 22.The team, including deputy superintendent of police Priya Patil, inspector Shriram Kanherkar, sub-inspectors Mayushwari Kharat and Mangesh Mane caught the accused on Thursday evening. He has been remanded in police custody till June 8.According to the complaint, the accused had arrived in Kolhapur to attend the funeral of the complainant’s mother.Police inspector Shriram Kanherkar of Laxmipuri police station said, “While the relatives were observing the last rites, the accused slipped inside the house without being noticed. He went to the rooms on the third and fourth floors of the building and started searching for jewellery. He found jewellery weighing 120 grams kept in a cupboard. He fled with the jewellery. After some time, the theft was discovered.”“The accused had melted the stolen jewellery and made it into a necklace. The team has seized the necklace. The court has remanded him to police custody till June 8,” added Kanherkar.
