Narmada pipeline bursts in Mhow, several areas suffer water-logging

Times News NetworkMhow: A Narmada phase-3 pipeline burst in Mhow on Thursday morning resulting in leakage of lakhs of litres of water which submerged roads and left adjacent areas water-logged for several hours.The breach happened near town hall branch of SBI at 8.45am. Water was thrown up several feet in the air which then started flowing towards Dreamland Square and SBI branch. Severe waterlogging was witnessed at the square and in the main street and Simrol road.Water also entered almost every low-lying locality, SBI branch, Mhow Cantonment Board (MCB) office, tennis court and cantonment garden. Within 15 minutes, water level at Dreamland Square rose so much that two-wheeler riders were not able to drive through it with many losing control of their vehicles and falling in the water. The water level in the bank reached a level that power connection had to be disconnected to prevent short circuit.MCB engineer Amit Vyas told mediapersons that as soon as the breach occurred, officials of public health engineering (PHE), Indore Municipal Corporation and Narmada project were informed and they reached there in about an hour. “Pumping of water was stopped at the station and repair work was started only after water flow stopped completely,” he said.PHE official, Jimmy Robert, said that the water supply to around 85 overhead water tanks would be affected due to this pipeline breach.
