Indore: A debt dispute involving a missing son turned into a night of terror for an elderly couple in Indore, where three men allegedly held them hostage inside their own home and issued death threats.
ACP Rubina Mizwani said the incident took place in Heera Nagar area on Sunday. Police said the accused, Abhishek, Ankit and Gulshan, arrived at Maruti Nagar residence of 63-year-old Ramesh Joshi, a retired employee now working as a security guard.
They allegedly wanted to recover around Rs 40 lakh from Joshi's son, Ankit Joshi, who has been untraceable for nearly 20 days following a financial dispute running into crores.
When the elderly couple failed to provide any information about their son's whereabouts, the trio allegedly confined them inside the house, switched off their mobile phones and threatened to kill them. The accused also warned that if Ankit did not surface, they would forcibly take the couple to Bihar. They remained inside the house through the night, keeping constant watch over the couple.
The situation shifted the next morning when Ramesh Joshi persuaded the accused to allow him to leave for work. One of the men, Gulshan, accompanied him to keep watch. Later in the evening, near Meghdoot Garden, Joshi managed to evade him and rushed straight to Heera Nagar police station to narrate his ordeal.
Acting swiftly, police teams reached the house, rescued the elderly woman and detained all three accused. An FIR has been registered against the accused for wrongful confinement, verbal abuse and further investigation is underway.
