12-year-old girl falls into well while fetching water, drowns
Indore: A 12-year-old girl drowned after allegedly falling into a well while fetching water in Gopalpura village under Kalyanpura police station limits on Tuesday.The girl, identified as Shivani Makwana, had gone to the well with her elder sister when the incident occurred.Police said Shivani was collecting water when she reportedly lost her balance and slipped into the well. Villagers said there was no protective boundary wall around the structure, making it vulnerable to accidents.As soon as Shivani fell into the well, her sister ran home and alerted family members. Villagers gathered at the spot and launched a rescue effort. A pump was installed to drain water from the well, and after nearly three hours of continuous efforts, the girl was brought out. However, by then she had already died.After receiving information about the incident, a Dial-112 team and Kalyanpura police reached the spot. The body was sent to the district hospital for postmortem examination.Police have recorded the death and initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police said that they were investigating whether adequate safety measures were in place at the well and if any negligence contributed to the tragedy.
