Rain, thunderstorms to keep Gurgaon cooler for 2 days, temperatures to rise next week

Gurgaon: Thunderstorms and scattered rainfall brought significant relief from the heat across the city on Friday, with temperatures dropping sharply. The respite, however, is expected to be temporary, with India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a gradual rise in temperatures from next week.According to IMD’s local forecast, the city is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on Saturday, accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with temperatures remaining in the range of 26 to 38 degrees Celsius and 28 to 37 degrees Celsius, respectively.The weather system had a noticeable impact on temperatures. The IMD observatory on Sohna Road recorded a minimum temperature of 21°C on Friday, six degrees below normal, while the KVK station reported a minimum of 26.1°C.Day temperatures also fell considerably. Sohna Road station recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7°C, nearly 4.8°C lower than the previous day. The KVK station recorded a maximum of 34.4°C, while NorthCap University logged 35.5°C. Rainfall was recorded at multiple locations in the city, with the KVK observatory receiving 3.5 mm during the previous 24 hours.IMD’s seven-day forecast indicates that temperatures will begin rising after the weekend, touching 40°C on June 9 and 41°C on June 10.
Across Haryana, the average maximum temperature dropped by 3.1°C compared with the previous day and remained 1.7°C below normal. The average minimum temperature also declined by 2.6°C and was 3.8°C below normal.Meteorologists said the ongoing spell of cloud cover, rainfall and thunderstorms has temporarily interrupted heat build-up across the region. However, as rainfall activity weakens, temperatures are likely to climb above the 40°C mark again in parts of Haryana, including Gurgaon, during the coming week.
