Panaji: Plans to introduce mobility app ‘Chalo’ for Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) remain stalled, with the proposal still awaiting final govt approval. The app is expected to provide real-time bus location tracking, digital payment options, online ticketing and passenger information services.
One of the advantages of the system would be the generation of detailed passenger and operational data. Authorities would be able to monitor passenger footfall across routes and time slots, helping KTC understand travel patterns throughout the day.
“The system will provide information such as the number of passengers travelling during specific hours, total daily ridership, revenue collection figures, and details of buses that did not operate on a given day,” KTC chairperson, Ulhas Tuenkar told
TOI.
The proposed platform is also expected to strengthen fleet monitoring. Authorities would be able to track delays caused by traffic congestion, accidents, diversions and other operational disruptions affecting bus services.
To support these functions, a command-and-control mechanism is planned. KTC general manager, Mahendra Pednekar said that monitoring operations are expected to be coordinated from a dedicated control centre in Porvorim, where a team would oversee data generated through the system and use it to improve service delivery.
“The data collected would primarily be used internally rather than for public reporting. The information will help us improve services and make operational decisions,” Pednekar said.
However, challenges remain. Concerns have been raised about network connectivity in certain areas, which could affect real-time tracking and data transmission. KTC officials acknowledged that connectivity issues would need to be addressed as part of the rollout.
“Despite these challenges, we are optimistic that the technology could improve efficiency, provide better passenger information and enhance overall public transport management across Goa,” Pednekar said.
For now, commuters will have to wait, as the app proposal remains in limbo.
