DEHRADUN: Police have arrested two more accused in connection with the murder of a retired brigadier, Mukesh Kumar Joshi (74), who was shot dead during his morning walk on Monday, taking the total number of arrests in the case to nine.The arrests were made around 1.30am on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday following a tip-off. One of the accused was injured in the leg during a brief encounter with the police.The accused have been identified as Shantanu Tyagi (21), a resident of Saharanpur, and Kavish Tyagi (22), a resident of Muzaffarnagar.SSP Pramendra Dobal said, “During a checking drive being carried out in the city’s Rajpur area, we received input about two absconding accused returning to Dehradun. Acting on the input, police tracked down Shantanu and nabbed him from Guniyal village in the Rajpur area. The other accused, Kavish, resisted police action and fired at the police team. In retaliation, police fired at him, and he sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was then nabbed and taken to the hospital for treatment.”Police said the case is linked to a dispute at a local nightclub, where the accused and their associate had an altercation prior to the incident. Those arrested so far include staff members as well as the owner of the nightclub.“Shantanu was produced before a local court on Saturday and sent to jail. Kavish will be produced after being discharged from the hospital,” Dobal added.
