Chennai: A 52-year-old man belonging to the nomadic Narikurava community was arrested for shooting his son with a country-made gun after the latter attacked his mother with a knife during a quarrel, in Mamallapuram. The injured son sustained bullet wounds to both knees and was admitted to Chengalpet GH.

Prabhakaran, 25, occurred at the Narikuravar settlement at Pooncheri near Mamallapuram.
Police said Prabhakaran used to frequently quarrel with his mother, demanding money to buy alcohol. On Friday night, during one such quarrel, Prabhakaran took a knife and attacked Mala before fleeing the scene.
After Mala was taken to the govt hospital in Pooncheri, Shekhar went home, took a country-made gun and shot at Prabhakaran near the Maruthu Temple. Prabhakaran was injured below both knees and was rushed to the hospital.
Shekhar was arrested for attempted murder. Police said a separate case would also be registered against Prabhakaran for the knife attack on his mother.
