Sangrur: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, cabinet minister Barinder Kumar Goyal attended religious and social programmes held across various villages of Lehra assembly constituency on Sunday. He also dedicated community halls constructed in different villages to the public.The villages marked the occasion with devotion, enthusiasm and a spirit of brotherhood.

Goyal said under a historic decision taken by the Punjab govt to promote the teachings of Guru Ravidas, a Sri Guru Ravidas Bani Study Centre would be established near Dera Ballan in Jalandhar district. He said the Punjab govt allotted over nine acres of land in the name of the study centre at a cost of Rs 10.5 crore.While participating in programmes held in Ramgarh Sandhuan, Sekhuwas, Ghorenab, Kalwanjara, Jalur, Khandebad, Lehl Khurd and Khai villages, the minister shared his views on the sacred bani and life philosophy of Guru Ravidas.He said Guru Ravidas raised his voice against social inequality, untouchability and discrimination, and conveyed the message of humanity, equality and brotherhood, adding that his teachings were as relevant to today's society as they were in his own time.
He added that Guru Ravidas inspired people towards inner purity, truthfulness and a life of righteous action.The minister said the Punjab govt, under the leadership of chief minister Bhagwant Mann, was committed to the welfare of every section of society by following the teachings of saints, gurus and great personalities. He said the core objective of the welfare-oriented schemes being implemented by the govt was to ensure social justice, equality and inclusive development.He appealed to people to follow the path shown by Guru Ravidas, strengthen mutual love, harmony and social unity, and connect the younger generation with the teachings and history of the Gurus.Residents of various villages, religious leaders, panchayat representatives, social workers and a large number of devotees were present during the events.
