Siraj MohammadBhubaneswar: The twin cities and a few more places in the state experienced light to moderate rain and thunderstorm on Wednesday, bringing slight relief from gruelling heat and rising trend in mercury.Such rainfall and thunderstorm, accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind, uprooted trees or broke branches before partially hitting power supply and communication at some places."This rainfall brought some relief from the scorching heat we experienced over the past few days," said Priyabrata Sahu, a resident of Patia.IMD rainfall report recorded by 5.30 pm said Jajpur and Bhadrak town recorded the highest 12.6 mm and 12.4 mm rainfall, respectively, during the day. However, rain recorded after 5.30 pm was awaited, the IMD report said.The rain and thunderstorm activities, which also continued at some more places in the past 24 hours, influenced slight drop in day temperature at isolated places in the state.On Wednesday, Sambalpur, at 44.2 degrees Celsius, recorded the day's highest in the state. Titilagarh followed at 43.5 degrees Celsius. The city experienced thunderstorm activity after day temperature touched 37.6 degrees Celsius.IMD forecast said such rain and thunderstorm trend, accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind warning, would continue in several districts districts for the next five to six days.Manorama Mohanty, head of regional IMD centre, said day temperature would drop by two to four degrees Celsius after two days.
