Bhopal: A 35-year-old man died under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Rajat Golden Palm City under Katara Hills police station limits late on Thursday night. Preliminary findings suggest that he may have choked on gutkha while sleeping, though police said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
According to police, the deceased, Vivek Nagle, 35, was a resident of Rajat Golden Palm City and worked in the private sector. He was originally from Amla in Betul district.
Police said Vivek suddenly fell unconscious at his home around 1.30 am on Thursday night. His brother,
Hansraj, immediately rushed him to a hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead on arrival.
Following information from the hospital, Katara Hills police sent the body for post-mortem examination. The body was handed over to family members after the autopsy on Friday.
Police said doctors found traces of gutkha lodged in the deceased’s nose and throat. Preliminary assessment indicates that Vivek, who was reportedly addicted to chewing gutkha, may have consumed it before going to sleep and subsequently choked when the contents entered his airway.
An initial possibility is that gutkha got stuck in the respiratory tract, leading to suffocation. However, the exact cause of death will be established only after the post-mortem report is received, police said.
Police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death.
