Pilibhit: A patrolling team of the forest department seized the carcass of a sub-adult male wild boar, allegedly hunted by poachers, after an encounter in the Barahi forest range of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) around 11pm on Wednesday. The wild boar is listed under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act, 2022.Divisional forest officer Manish Singh said the team, led by forest inspector Kapil Kumar, surrounded the poachers at compartment number 11 in Simra forest beat II following a tip-off. “The poachers opened indiscriminate fire, prompting retaliation by forest personnel. They fled, leaving behind their bike and the carcass,” he said. He said that the animal was shot between the neck and the shoulder.Forest range officer Arun Mohan Shrivastav said one accused, Harjinder Singh of Raghavpuri village, was identified through the registration details of the abandoned bike. “A departmental case has been registered, and a complaint will be filed at Madhotanda police station,” he said.
