Suspended cop held on charge of robbing builder
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A police constable attached with the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rural police, who is currently under suspension, has been arrested by the Jawahar Nagar police on charge of robbing a Latur-based builder late on Sunday.The police have also arrested the accused constable's driver for being part of the crime. The accused have been identified as 28-year-old constable Vishnu Suresh Nangude alias Vishnu Patil and 30-year-old Ramesh Shinde (driver).According to the police, the incident occurred around 9pm on April 19, when the complainant (Madhur Chitte) and his doctor wife were returning to the city in their car.As per the complaint, Nangude abruptly stopped his car on Sevenhills Road, forcing Chitte's vehicle to halt and resulting in a minor rear-end collision. Though Chitte offered to share his contact details and compensate for the damage as his wife had to urgently report to the hospital, the accused did not relent."The accused duo followed the couple till the Garkheda area, waylaid their car and began threatening them. Nangude allegedly kicked the vehicle, damaged its rearview mirror and attempted to assault the occupants. He then falsely claimed to be a sub-inspector in order to intimidate the couple," a police officer said.
Under duress, the victim was forced to transfer Rs40,000 online to the accused. "The accused also snatched a gold chain and a mobile phone from the accused. They also issued death threats to the victim and warned his wife against returning to the city," the officer said."A case against the two was registered on Monday and they were subsequently arrested. They were produced before the court on Tuesday and have been remanded in police custody," the officer added.
