Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A late-night argument over vehicle parking turned violent in the Pundaliknagar area on Friday after a police constable allegedly attacked a Shiv Sena office-bearer with a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting a serious neck injury. The police have registered an attempt to murder case against the constable and his family members.
The incident occurred around 10.30pm near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Pundaliknagar. The injured man has been identified as Vikas Narode, a 40-year-old local resident and Shiv Sena office-bearer. The accused is a constable attached to the motor transport department of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city police.
According to the complaint, both men are neighbours, and they got into a dispute over parking vehicles outside their houses. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which the constable allegedly attacked Narode with a knife, causing a grievous injury to his neck.
Pundaliknagar inspector Ashok Bhandare said, "The constable's family members — his wife, sister-in-law, niece and nephew — also allegedly joined the assault and attacked Narode with fists and kicks."
Narode was taken to a city-based hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors said his condition is stable. The constable also sustained facial injuries in the scuffle and is currently admitted to another hospital.
Based on Narode's complaint, the Pundaliknagar police registered a case (crime no. 172/2026) against the constable under BNS sections 109(1), 189(2), 189(4), 191(2), 191(3) and 190 pertaining to attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, rioting etc. His family members have been booked under relevant sections for their alleged involvement.
The police said two personnel have been deployed to guard the constable at the hospital, and he will be arrested immediately after his discharge. Teams have also been formed to trace and apprehend the other accused. Senior officers said additional police bandobast has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure, and the situation remains peaceful.
